ePanel 2018 – Certificates of Added Competence (CACs)

While maintaining our pride as family physicians and the generalists that we are trained to be, we acknowledge that the delivery of family medicine services is evolving. Certificates of Added Competence (CACs) provide a means of recognizing family physicians who have achieved a defined level of competence in certain domains of care, and a commitment to maintenance. In this latest ePanel, we asked participants their thoughts on CACs from the perspective of both CAC holders and non-CAC holders. Questions range from collaboration between CAC holders and non-CAC holders, opinions on CACs, and the direction the College should take on CACs.

The final ePanel of 2017 asked respondents for their thoughts on the role of family physicians in home care.

CFPC ePanel 2 2017 -  Quality Improvement (QI) and Data Readiness

As family physicians, we strive to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients while also enhancing access to care, increasing efficiencies, and improving the experience for patients and care providers. Quality improvement (QI) provides a set of values and methods that can contribute to this. Evidence based on data derived from the realities of everyday practice contributes to practice improvements.

The College is promoting and advancing QI and using data at the frontlines of family medicine. It is collaborating with key partners such as Chapters, departments of family medicine, provincial governments, national bodies, and entities in other countries. We will adopt and adapt materials and tools that already exist, and develop new ones where these are needed.

CFPC ePanel 1 2017 – Family Medicine Job Profile/Comprehensiveness

How we define ourselves as family physicians depends on many variables including how we were trained, how we understand ourselves to practise family medicine, what our community and patients expect from us, what our colleagues need from us, how we function within our clinical settings, and so on. This survey asked members for their feedback on elements of comprehensiveness and continuity in care for training in Family Medicine.

CFPC ePanel 3 2016 – Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)

This survey focused on Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). SDOH refers to conditions in which people are born, grow, life, work, and age that ultimately have an impact on their health.

CFPC ePanel 2 2016 - Mainpro+ Mobile App Survey

On June 27, 2016, the CFPC launched its new Mainpro+ (Maintenance of Proficiency) program - an updated way of earning and reporting continuing professional development credits. In an effort to help make credit reporting easier and more convenient for users, the CFPC is investigating the creation of a dedicated Mainpro+ mobile application that would allow users to report credits on the go. We asked ePanel members for information on their credit reporting habits and feedback on features they would like to see in a new mobile application. 

CFPC ePanel 1 2016 - Same-Day and After-Hours Access

The latest CFPC ePanel collected physician input around providing same-day and after-hours access. Findings highlight the challenges and benefits of same-day and timely access as well as the perceptions of family physicians of their role.

CFPC ePanel 4 2015 - Mandatory CPD for Prescribing Opioids

At its November 2015 Board meeting, the CFPC discussed CPD aimed at prescribing of opioids. The feedback ePanel members provided as part of the survey below was critical in helping us to appreciate how we approach this serious issue. A motion was passed that recognized opioid misuse as a major public health crisis and that the CFPC will collaborate with organizations, such as the regulatory bodies, to develop/accredit high-quality CPD programming in this area.

CFPC ePanel 2 2015 - Physician Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia

As you know, there are significant discussions about Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS)/Physician Assisted Dying (PAD) and Euthanasia amongst the public and health care professionals. Currently, we have more questions about the effect on family medicine than we have answers. To aid the College in decisions related to this complex issue, we conducted the following survey.

CFPC ePanel 1 2015 - Relationship with Pharmaceutical Industry

Your feedback will guide policies and decisions made by your College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Our first survey asks for your opinions on the CFPC’s relationship with the pharmaceutical industry. Our connections with the pharmaceutical industry are carefully and diligently managed. However, we would like to know what members think about how these relationships should be handled. Changing our working relationships with the pharmaceutical industry could affect a variety of current practices such as advertising in Canadian Family Physician (CFP), maintaining sponsorships and commercial exhibits at Family Medicine Forum (FMF) and Chapter Annual Scientific Assemblies (ASAs), and continuing to give MAINPRO® credits to educational programs developed with support from the pharmaceutical industry.
