Canadian Family Physician

(Next Issue January 23rd)

In the January issue of Canadian Family Physician

This month’s cover image by Suzanne Berton, Canadian Boys Outdoor Hockey, is a nostalgic reminder of some of the fun of Canadian winters. But with winter often comes an increase in illness and infections—and, as a result, potentially the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics account for a quarter of all prescriptions for children and are a common source of adverse events. A Child Health Update in this issue addresses the use of probiotics for antibiotic-associated diarrhea in children, and a Tools for Practice article also examines point-of-care testing for group A streptococcal pharyngitis to help determine who might benefit from antibiotics.

CFP believes in making the intellectual property created by our authors, editors, reviewers and designers available to as many people as possible, in as many formats as possible.

Our core product, of course, is the print edition of CFP, which is distributed monthly to all members of the CFPC and to paid subscribers. It focuses on commentaries and hands-on, how-to articles such as clinical reviews, case reports, critical appraisals, as well as regular features such as Child Health Update, Tools for Practice and Art of Family Medicine. Research articles also frequently appear in the print edition.

All of this content is also published online at, along with considerable web exclusive content, including ancillary materials in our “CFPlus” feature and full-length research articles. All of these articles are placed on the international record in PubMed and available in full text at PubMed Central.

In addition, we now publish a digital edition (called eCFP) that includes all the articles in both the print and online editions. It is e-mailed to all members every month. Also available in digital format are a French edition and a Research edition.

We also have CFP Mainpro+®, a service that allows members to use selected journal content to earn Mainpro+ certified credits.

In addition, one of the most popular features of the print edition – the careers and locums ad section – is also available online in a searchable format.
